180 Excavator (Novice New Entrant)




Format: 3 days

No of Participants: Up to 4

Certification: SOLAS CSCS logbook/ticket and QQI certificate

Objective:

To instruct, train and assess participants in the safe use of 180 Excavators, in a variety of terrains, in keeping with current legislation.
180 Excavators often referred to as Backhoes or Backhoe Loaders are used for a huge variety of different jobs. Often they are the only piece of heavy equipment on a construction site.
The 3 main elements are, tractor, loader and backhoe, and all are suited to a particular sort of work. On a typical site, the backhoe operator usually uses all three components to get the job done.
But their size, weight and power make it imperative that these machines are operated accredited personnel who have successfully completed an appropriate 180 excavator training course.

Course Content:

Theory:

  • Duties of operator
  • Pre-Shift Inspection
  • Hazards associated with working with 180 Excavators
  • Practical
  • Front shovel operation
  • Excavating and digging procedures
  • Back filling procedures
  • Ground Leveling
  • Machine limitations in different environments


On the 3rd day of the course participants are given a log book. After 6 months further experience under the supervision of a CSCS ticket holder of the same category, they must pass a 1 day assessment to achieve CSCS card and QQI Certification.

Participants must bring the following on the day of training:

1. Passport Photo
2. Current Safe Pass
3. Personal Protective Equipment
4. Evidence or Proof of experience (Over six months) i.e. Letter from employer

Participants must be aged 18 years or over
