QQI Level 4 Basic Guarding Skills




Objective

All persons working in the private security industry in the republic of Ireland are legally required to hold a private security association (PSA) licence. To be eligible to apply for a licence you must complete the relevant training course. The basic Guarding course required is a level 4 minor award from the Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) . The content of this course will allow each learner to gain the skills knowledge and attitude needed to successfully begin working in the security industry.

  • Legislation and Regulation
  • Retail Security
  • Practical and Emergency Procedure

 

This course will enable each  learner to understand the background and historical developments of the private security industry in Ireland and define the principles related to the guarding role such as loss prevention, electronic security systems e.g. CCTV , intruder alarms, access control systems and tagging systems.

The relevant legal codes and practices and health and safety regulations will also be covered. Each learner will clearly understand  examples of areas of loss in the working environment e.g. shoplifting,  theft, wastage and damage, a clear and concise outline of the principal duties of the security officer will also be covered and the precautions to be taken when dealing with a suspect e.g. approaching, detaining and searching.

Practical skills such as correct note taking proper use of equipment such as two-way radios, proper patrolling etiquette as well emergency etiquette are also included.

All candidates that successfully complete the course will receive a Basic Guarding Skills Certificate
