(SRC) for VHF radio operators




The Short Range Certificate of Competence for VHF radio operators

Objective

The aim of this course is give you the learner the knowledge and skills to be able to use VHF Radios and related equipment in the a safe and legal manner inline with national and international legal standards.

 

Over the duration of the course you will gain and practical experience in relation to the correct and proper usage of radiotelephony and Digital Selective Calling (DSC) for distress, urgency, safety and routine communications.

  • Rules and regulations
  • Correct use
  • Use during search and rescue
  • Maritime Mobile Service and Global Maritime Distress
  • Communication and locating signals (EPIRBS) (SARTS)
  • Maritime safety information
  • Use of NAVTEX
  • Equipment Maintenance and care

 

 

Course Duration: 2 Day

 

 

 

Course preparation

Two weeks prior to the course commencing a pre course study pack will be provided to each learner to assist with course familiarisation.

 

 

 

Assessment

Practical: Each learner will required to demonstrate to the examiner that they are capable of using and maintaining each piece of equipment as well as sending and receiving messages in the proper manner.

 

 

Theory: Each Learner must successfully complete pass a theory test.

Each learner that passes the assessment will be awarded a Certificate of Competence.
